 ADULT EDUCATOR

Adult education is a growing industry.  More and more adults are seeking to improve existing and learn new skills and knowledge.

Adults learn through educational institutions such as secondary schools, TAFE’s, colleges and universities.  Another area that adults have ample opportunity to learn is at their workplace.  Employees receive training when they first start and this continues throughout their employment.   This is called “Learning and Development”

Teaching adults is different to teaching children. Children have limited life experiences whereas adults bring their accumulated knowledge and experiences which can either help or hinder the learning experience.

Adult learners need to know why they are learning this new skill or knowledge. They need to know the relevance of it and they need to be part of the learning experience.  Once this has been achieved, they will be motivated and take responsibility for their learning and development.

GARY AS AN EDUCATOR

Gary has worked in the adult education industry for over 20 years.   His passion for education started at an early age where he taught at pony club. 

He enjoyed the experience of sharing and imparting skills and knowledge and to witness students achieving what they set out to do.

Gary has worked in the retail industry, the hospitality industry, the sports industry, the IT,  and the legal and financial sector.  Within each industry, he has played a huge part in training.

Throughout his career, he has worked with individuals and/or organisations (including sports clubs) throughout Australia to assist in developing their training needs and analysis and developing training and assessment strategies and to facilitate their training program.

One of Gary’s strengths is educating trainers or managers in the principles of adult education. Individuals or organisations have approached him to review, improve or assist their training staff or managers in their training skills. 

Organisations have found that their best performers are not necessary their best trainers and up skilling these staff have improved their workforce, overall productivity and their bottom line.

Gary is currently a “Learning and Development Manager” for an international company based in Brisbane.
